Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is preparing for its second beta weekend, opening the experience to all players and bringing even more content for fans to explore. Players are finally getting their first hands-on look at Modern Warfare 4 ahead of its October launch, with the upcoming open beta giving the largest audience yet an opportunity to experience Infinity Ward's latest entry.

Following the conclusion of the first weekend of the Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 beta, Infinity Ward isn't slowing down. The studio has continued tweaking and fixing the experience ahead of the open beta after the game faced a wave of negative reviews and backlash online.

While plenty of players enjoyed the first beta, negative Steam reviews highlighted concerns surrounding the time-to-kill, extremely fast movement, and the limited reaction time these mechanics can create. Skill-based matchmaking has also remained a controversial topic among players. Despite the criticism, Infinity Ward is moving forward with the second beta weekend and has now detailed what players can expect.

In a lengthy new blog post, Activision has outlined the full details for the open beta, which begins across all platforms on August 28. Content from the Early Access beta will return, including another opportunity to earn exclusive Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 cosmetic rewards through level progression, challenges, and even watching selected Twitch streamers.

The open beta will also introduce a significant amount of new content, including the new Call of Duty: Warzone Resurgence map Zodiac. Infinity Ward describes Zodiac as a compact combat zone located inside a drone manufacturing complex. As with other Resurgence experiences, players can redeploy while at least one teammate remains alive, while eliminations and completed contracts help reduce the redeployment timer.

Ground War is another major addition arriving with the open beta. The 24v24 multiplayer mode pits large teams against one another across two Combat Outpost battlegrounds while combining traditional infantry combat with vehicles. The two maps, Imjin Farmland and Wolves Stadium, are designed around very different environments. Imjin Farmland offers more open, rural combat across fields and scattered farms, while Wolves Stadium focuses on dense urban areas with buildings and vertical spaces.

Players will also be able to try the unique Kill Block combat space during the second beta weekend. The mode supports both 3v3 and 10v10 Gunfight matches, with the environment dynamically reconfiguring itself after every two rounds. Its interconnected slabs, randomized loadouts, and constantly changing layout are designed to make every match feel different while adding another unpredictable element to Modern Warfare 4's multiplayer.

Infinity Ward is also expected to continue making adjustments throughout the open beta. During the first Early Access weekend, the studio released multiple updates that added content such as the Cachette and Lithium maps while addressing issues reported by players. The continued updates give Infinity Ward an opportunity to gather even more feedback before Modern Warfare 4 officially launches in October.
