Focus Entertainment and Auroch Digital have announced that Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 will launch on October 14 for PlayStation, Xbox, and PC, with a Nintendo Switch 2 version planned for a later date. The sequel picks up after the events of the 2023 retro first person shooter, expanding the boomer shooter gameplay with a second playable character, over 30 levels, and overhauled boss battles.
A playable demo is currently available on PC and consoles ahead of the full release.
Dual playable characters and unique playstylesWhile Warhammer 40,000: Boltgun 2 remains a strictly single player experience, players can now choose between two distinct protagonists with unique loadouts and mobility options:
Malum Caedo: The returning Space Marine Ultramarine relies on raw firepower and heavy armor. His starting loadout includes the classic Boltgun, Chainsword, frag grenades, and the Caedo Obliterating Charge skill.
Nyla Veyrath: The newly introduced Adepta Sororitas Battle Sister offers a faster, more agile playstyle. She comes equipped with a Power Sword and Bolt Pistol, utilizing a Fervent Slide for horizontal and vertical movement alongside crowd controlling Melta Bombs.
Both characters can unlock additional weaponry throughout the campaign, including Flamers, Shotguns, and Stakethrowers. On select levels, AI controlled Death Korps of Krieg soldiers will fight alongside the player.
The sequel introduces major structural improvements over the linear design of the original title. The campaign features a branching progression system across more than 30 levels, requiring multiple playthroughs to explore every path.
Players will battle over 40 new enemy types spanning all four major Chaos God factions: Nurgle, Tzeentch, Khorne, and Slaanesh. Boss fights have been redesigned with increased mechanical complexity, culminating in a climax against Vashtorr the Arkifane featuring an original battle theme composed by DOOM Eternal musician Mick Gordon.
