Nintendo has given The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time fans another look at the upcoming remake, this time highlighting Saria, Darunia, and Princess Ruto.
The three characters will return with redesigned appearances in the Nintendo Switch 2 version of the classic adventure, which launches exclusively on the system on November 5, 2026. Nintendo describes the remake as a version of the Nintendo 64 classic rebuilt for a new generation, with completely overhauled visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, symphonic orchestral music, and updated controls.
A preview shared through Nintendo's UK social media accounts showcases the updated versions of Saria, Princess Ruto, and Darunia.
Darunia remains the largest of the three characters, standing between Saria and the younger Princess Ruto. His redesigned appearance includes a white loincloth along with additional detailing and adornments on his arms and legs.
Saria has also received a more detailed interpretation of her familiar Kokiri-inspired clothing. Her outfit appears to incorporate leather and other materials associated with the Kokiri Forest, giving the character a more elaborate appearance while retaining the visual identity of her original design.
Princess Ruto's redesign is comparatively more restrained. Although additional details have been added to her appearance, she remains the closest of the three to her original incarnation.
The remake will also give the characters more expressive performances through voiced cutscenes and expanded dialogue, a significant change from the original Nintendo 64 release. Nintendo officially lists voiced cutscenes and expanded dialogue among the remake's features.
For longtime Ocarina of Time fans, Saria, Darunia, and Princess Ruto are much more than supporting characters.
All three eventually become members of the Seven Sages, playing an important role in Link's effort to stop Ganondorf. Their connection to the game's story makes their redesigns particularly notable as Nintendo reinterprets the classic adventure for modern hardware.
The story also takes place across two different periods in Link's life. Princess Ruto therefore has both a younger and older incarnation, although Nintendo has not yet revealed what her older design will look like in the remake.
That leaves one particularly familiar version of Ruto's appearance still unseen.
The redesigned cast is only one part of Nintendo's broader approach to Ocarina of Time.
The remake features a substantially more detailed version of Hyrule alongside its character overhaul. Nintendo has also confirmed modernized camera movement and enhanced controls, including the ability to jump and dash.
These changes give the remake a noticeably different presentation from the original Nintendo 64 game while retaining its central story.
Nintendo is also introducing features that were not part of the original Ocarina of Time.
One of them is Threads of Time, a tapestry that fills in as players progress through the story. The feature is designed to help players keep track of their journey and their next objective.
The addition gives the remake another way to visualize Link's progression through the adventure.
The remake will also work with ZELDA NOTES, a game-specific service available through the Nintendo Switch App on compatible smart devices.
According to Nintendo, the service allows players to review their daily accomplishments, take on challenges involving locations from the game, and play an ocarina on their smart device.
The game will also support The Legend of Zelda series amiibo for additional in-game extras. Nintendo has specifically announced upcoming Young Link and Young Zelda amiibo associated with the game.
Nintendo has previously shown Ganondorf in footage from the remake, and the character's new presentation has also sparked discussion among fans about who will provide his voice.
The source material identifies Matt Mercer as the subject of fan speculation. Mercer previously portrayed Ganondorf in The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom and Hyrule Warriors: Age of Imprisonment. However, the provided source does not establish that Mercer has been confirmed as Ganondorf's voice actor for Ocarina of Time.
For that reason, his involvement should be treated as unconfirmed unless Nintendo or Mercer provides an official announcement.
Nintendo's remake is shaping up to be a substantial new interpretation of the classic adventure rather than a straightforward visual upgrade.
Alongside redesigned versions of characters such as Saria, Darunia, and Ruto, the game will feature overhauled visuals, voiced cutscenes, expanded dialogue, orchestral music, modernized controls, and new features such as Threads of Time and ZELDA NOTES.
For fans who have known these characters since the Nintendo 64 era, the latest reveal offers an early look at how Nintendo is bringing some of Ocarina of Time's most recognizable allies into its new version of Hyrule.
The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time launches exclusively on Nintendo Switch 2 on November 5, 2026.
