Bungie co-founder Jason Jones and bestselling author Margaret Stohl have officially established Stone Kite Studios, a new entertainment company based in Los Angeles. The studio aims to bring together creators from film, television, comic books, literature, and video games to build original transmedia universes from the ground up.
The company's debut franchise, titled One Zero One, originates from an original manuscript written by Jason Jones, who previously helped create major video game series such as Halo and Destiny. The narrative is set in the near future and focuses on a global conflict between humanity and a rogue army of artificial intelligence soldiers. The property will expand across multiple formats, including print, digital releases, prose, audio projects, and screen adaptations.
The launch begins with the release of One Zero One No. 1, which marks the first entry in a four part limited comic book series. New issues will release for free online through 2027. Stone Kite Studios operates with the strategy of developing stories across various mediums simultaneously rather than creating a single game or book first and adapting it later.
Margaret Stohl, who serves as Chief Executive Officer and co-founder of Stone Kite Studios, is a number one New York Times bestselling author and experienced Marvel Comics writer. Stohl stated that the goal of the new studio is to break down traditional media silos by involving creators from different entertainment fields from the very beginning of the world building process.
Jason Jones shared that writing has been a lifelong personal passion alongside his career in game development. He noted that working with Stohl allowed him to develop his original manuscript into a larger narrative designed to entertain audiences across multiple platforms for years to come.
