Nintendo has added three classic Game Boy games to Nintendo Switch Online, expanding its retro library with a ghostly action platformer, a clever puzzle game, and a reptile-themed pinball adventure. The new titles are available now through the Nintendo Classics collection.
Avenging Spirit first appeared in Japanese arcades in 1991 as Phantasm before receiving a Game Boy port in 1992. Players control a ghost seeking revenge on the crime syndicate that killed him, possessing four different characters to use their unique abilities as he tries to save his girlfriend.
Mole Mania, developed and published by Nintendo, puts players in control of Muddy, a mole tasked with guiding a black ball through each stage. Its simple premise hides surprisingly strategic gameplay: players dig tunnels, avoid traps, and use underground paths without accidentally sending the ball into a hole.
Pinball: Revenge of the ’Gator rounds out the update. Released in North America and Europe in 1990, it offers classic flipper-based pinball with one memorable twist—players must keep the ball away from the hungry alligator waiting to swallow it.
The additions raise the Nintendo Switch Online Classics library from 392 to 395 games. The service began in 2018 with just 20 NES titles and has since grown to include SNES, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and, through the Expansion Pack, Nintendo 64, Sega Genesis, Game Boy Advance, GameCube, and Virtual Boy games.
The Game Boy collection is now just one title away from reaching 50 games in North America. While the overall count is technically 51, a few games—including the Game Boy Color version of Balloon Kid and the mahjong title Yakuman—remain exclusive to Japan.
For subscribers, the update is another reminder of Nintendo Switch Online’s value as a preservation service. Rather than hunting down decades-old cartridges, players can revisit these handheld classics on Switch or Switch 2 as part of their membership.
