When Reality Begins To Unravel

    A Fractured City Awaits Dylan

A new paranormal phenomenon has surfaced to change Manhattan. When Dylan escapes confinement and enters the isolated city so he is faced with another confrontation with the Hiss and alongside its mold and newly formed resonance known as the Patterning, so he will face a new reality of the unknown.

In the new crisis scenario, the Hiss changes the environment around and turns Manhattan into a highly unpredictable territory where many things can happen. Even after Jesse’s disappearance, Dylan Faden becomes one
of the few people able to face the threats
that are chaotic and higher than ever.

“You were just a kid too.”
— Dylan Faden

    When The Unknown Calls

Backtrack a few years ago, after the events
of the original, the Federal Bureau of Control has been experiencing the repercussions of the Hiss invasion that almost led to the end  of the Oldest House. This Hiss, being an alien resonance, invaded the Bureau, took control over its workers, and spread chaos all over.

However, Jesse Faden found herself capable of fighting and containing the invasion but not erasing the Hiss at all. In order to avoid any further consequences because of the threat, the Oldest House was put under quarantine  in order to stop the Hiss from getting out of the Bureau which failed after seven years.

A Cast Full Of Mysteries

    Faces Behind The Crisis

The personalities behind Control Resonant are crucial in defining the character of Dylan Faden in his mission, as each one of the main protagonists brings their own unique view to the developing paranormal crisis happening all over Manhattan. The main character this sequel and the only playable protagonist of Control is Dylan Faden who is the younger brother of Jesse Faden and he is also this sequel’s protagonist as he unfolds the story.

After being kept by the Federal Bureau of Control for many years and recovering from the induced coma, Dylan finds himself in an absolutely different world, compared to what he was familiar with before, and this journey allows him to get to know himself better as well as his capabilities and the reasons for everything happening to him.

    New Allies, Familiar Connections

The other character who accompanies Dylan is Zoe De Vera, and she is an FBC field agent who will act as a handler and Dylan’s point of contact during his time in Manhattan so she is completely different from Dylan because she has actually seen the crisis happening outside unlike him. She also forms the huge bond,  between both of the characters through their interactions. Bringing back characters from the previous game, such as Emily Pope as it helps in connecting the two games further.

As well as Frederick Langston and Dr. Casper Darling, who brings characters with the past experiences and knowledge that can be used to add to the Bureau’s history.

Where Power Meets Paranatural Chaos

    Fight Beyond The Ordinary

Control Resonant is focused on the ability of Dylan Faden to control paranatural elements surrounding him, where all the supernatural abilities combined with the combat abilities, creating a sequel that is similar to the first game in terms of the gameplay even though there are many new ways of interaction with enemies throughout most of the experience.

Dylan is the only playable character in this game, which means all game mechanics are based on him, and his abilities influence not only combat mechanics but also his traversal of the environment throughout the game.

    A Path Full Of Possibilities

Another important feature of the sequel is its exploration part, because the city is depicted as an enormous interconnected world with a lot of places to explore, hidden locations and surprises, which can reward the player for his deviation from the usual route. This changing nature of the city implies that the exploration will not only involve traveling from one place to another, but also paranormal effects that  affect the surroundings, causing unexpected situations even in places you already know.

It goes without saying that exploration and combat go hand-in-hand, because the skills that Dylan possesses while fighting enemies can be applied to the environment as well.

Where The Familiar Turns Uncanny

    The Disturbing Reality Of Manhattan

The atmosphere in this sequel is an element that contributes greatly to the creation of an experience for the player. While continuing in the footsteps of the eerie supernatural world of the original game, the new one introduces additional means of making the environment disturbing and even more unsettling for us.

While the game does not rely on scaring
the player and shocking them, it relies on
the unusual nature of each environment, making the player experience a feeling of discomfort from anything that feels out          of place in the game world.

“I need to go inside. I need to keep moving.”
— Jesse Faden

    When Silence Hides A Threat

Moreover, the lack of action and noise can sometimes work just like the unexpected noise to make players uncertain whether there is any danger around lurking or if its just the environment acting in a peculiar manner, and another factor that makes encounters eerie is the presence of some supernatural elements that blur any line between reality and illusion. Isn’t that crazy?

So, the fact that players come across things beyond the reach of regular humans makes them feel very vulnerable even though their protagonist possessing special powers in    an unfamiliar world full of chaos.

Keeping The Chaos Running

    Performance, Balance and Stability

Technical performance is an important factor that helps ensure whether Control Resonant provides a smooth gameplay in the game’s supernatural setting, which consists of fast paced action, as well as supernatural powers and challenging reality. Due to its significant role played by the dynamic interaction within the sequel, it needs a very strong technical foundation that would help the responsive experience even during intense combat.

While playing the game, there is a need to switch between melee weapons, firearms and supernatural abilities which requires being responsive because any delay could mess with the player’s Journey. The use of visual effects is another important part of
the game since the supernatural events
and changing environment contribute to
the unique atmosphere of the game.

    Can The Machine Keep Up?

Another point that’s worth considering is how good the game holds up under the presence of many enemies, effects and interaction with the environment. This can put a lot more pressure on the machine, which means that the process of optimization is crucial when it comes to these moments. The experience itself can be different in regards to what platform, hardware and all the performance options are being used at any given time.

It can actually influence what will matter for the gamer, either the visuals or performance, mainly when quick reactions and movements are required. The technical aspect of Control Resonant needs to enhance the experience that the game offers. A well optimized game will allow players to immerse themselves in Dylan’s world as well as test his powers.

Manhattan's Unwritten Chapter

    A Universe Yet To Unfold

Control Resonant being the sequel to a game which has created a unique identity due to its strange world, weird narrative approach and the supernatural mysteries, has an obligation to follow up on a game that has defined itself as an interesting piece for returning players.

However, the sequel of it, has a possibility of moving in another direction by telling its story from the point of view of Dylan Faden and thus making players experience the world built by Remedy Entertainment differently.

Building on a pre-established plot means
not only bringing back things people have seen before, but also providing something new for the returning players to see and letting the game stand on its own feet.
