Pokémon GO is expanding the capabilities of its Explorer Gadget, giving Trainers more flexibility while exploring the real world. The latest update introduces active gameplay support alongside several quality-of-life improvements designed to make the adventure smoother and more enjoyable.
Previously, the Explorer Gadget automatically attempted to catch Pokémon and spin PokéStops while Pokémon GO was not actively open on a device. Now, the feature can also assist Trainers while they are actively playing.
Trainers who have reached Level 20 or higher can activate the Explorer Gadget by tapping its icon in the upper-right corner of the map or accessing it through the Key Items section of their Item Bag.
When activated during gameplay, the Explorer Gadget will attempt to catch Pokémon and spin PokéStops in the background. A pink Poké Ball icon will appear above Pokémon or PokéStops the gadget is interacting with, making it easier to see where it is helping.
Trainers can still take control of individual encounters by tapping a Pokémon or PokéStop marked with the pink icon. This allows players to attempt their own catch or spin instead of letting the gadget handle it.
The Explorer Gadget also provides a convenient summary of its activity, including the Pokémon it caught and the number of PokéStops it spun. Trainers can access this information through the gadget's icon on the map or in their Item Bag.
- Trainers using accessories such as Pokémon GO Plus + do not need to unpair their devices to use the Explorer Gadget.
- The Explorer Gadget and a paired accessory cannot be active simultaneously.
- The gadget will not attempt to catch certain Pokémon, including species not yet registered in a Trainer's Pokédex and Mighty Pokémon.
- Trainers have a limited window to take over an encounter or PokéStop interaction after the pink icon appears.
Alongside the Explorer Gadget update, several gameplay adjustments and visual improvements have been introduced to make Pokémon GO easier to navigate.
- Improved Catch Summary
The Pokémon catch summary has received a visual update, making rewards and catch bonuses clearer and easier to understand after an encounter.
- Dedicated Pokémon Appraisal Button
Checking a Pokémon's stats is now more convenient. A dedicated Appraise button has been added above the Additional Options button on a Pokémon's summary page, providing quicker access to its appraisal information.
- More Consistent Power Spot Encounters
Power Spots have received a gameplay adjustment to improve consistency for Trainers. Visiting a Power Spot or placing a Pokémon there after winning a Max Battle will no longer trigger special wild encounters around the location.
- Updated Encounter Ring Indicators
The visual rings surrounding wild Pokémon attracted by Lure Modules or encountered while exploring a Route have been updated, providing a refreshed appearance during encounters.
- Clearer PokéStop Visuals
Spun PokéStops now feature updated color saturation, making it easier to distinguish them from PokéStops that have not yet been visited.
- Refreshed Visual Effects
The visual effects surrounding Pokémon attracted by the Mystery Box or Coin Bag have also been updated, giving these special encounters a refreshed look.
The Explorer Gadget's expanded functionality gives Trainers more freedom to enjoy Pokémon GO at their own pace. Whether actively exploring, managing Pokémon, or letting the gadget handle some tasks in the background, the latest improvements aim to make everyday gameplay more convenient.
With clearer visuals, faster access to important information, and additional support during active play, Pokémon GO continues to refine the experience for both dedicated Trainers and casual players.
