Metro Redux now supports PS5 through Sony’s subscription service, bringing enhanced visuals, smoother performance, and a fresh reason to revisit the iconic shooter series.
PS Plus Premium subscribers have received an unexpected bonus ahead of this month's official game lineup, with Metro Redux now available in an enhanced PS5 version.
Neither Sony nor publisher Deep Silver officially announced the addition. However, the game's PlayStation Store listing has been updated to include the new PS5 edition. The original PS4 version was already part of the subscription catalog, making this a welcome upgrade for fans of the series.
The updated version brings several technical improvements to Metro 2033 and Metro: Last Light, giving both atmospheric shooters a noticeable visual and performance boost on current-generation hardware.
Here are the improvements players can expect:
- 4K resolution at 60 FPS
- Upscaled 4K resolution at 120 FPS with PSSR support on PS5 Pro
- Increased texture detail
- Improved shadows, lighting, and shading
- Enhanced particle effects
- Better animation and sound quality
- Low Energy Mode support
- Real-time hardware tessellation and displacement
These upgrades make the two games an appealing choice for players who enjoy immersive storytelling, atmospheric environments, and intense survival gameplay.
The surprise addition also completes the Metro collection on Sony's subscription service. Metro Exodus, the third mainline entry, joined PS Plus Extra several months ago.
With Metro Redux now supporting PS5, subscribers have an opportunity to experience the franchise from its beginning without purchasing each game separately.
The timing is particularly exciting, as Metro 2039 is scheduled to arrive in February 2027. Whether experiencing the series for the first time or returning to its underground world, now is a great opportunity to catch up before the next chapter arrives.
For PS Plus Premium members, this unexpected upgrade adds even more value to the subscription while giving one of gaming's memorable post-apocalyptic franchises a fresh spotlight.
