Fortnite launched its latest treasure-hunting mini-season on Sunday, featuring a highly anticipated One Piece collaboration. While fans were excited about the arrival of the long-requested anime skins, another surprise has quickly become the season's biggest attraction.
The Pirate Shop access token is sending players into a frenzy. The rare item grants access to everything in the Item Shop for free over a 14-day period, potentially saving players hundreds of dollars in V-Bucks.
With Treasure Hours approaching, players may soon have a better chance of finding this highly coveted reward.
The current Fortnite mini-season revolves around treasure hunting, with players discovering various rewards in chests. These range from useful gadgets to rare skins, but the Pirate Shop token has quickly become the ultimate prize.
The token can be activated once before Dec. 15, 2026, and again before Dec. 15, 2027. Its generous rewards have encouraged players to spend hours in Battle Royale matches, opening as many chests as possible.
However, the exact drop rate remains uncertain. Dataminer Blortzen estimates that the token could appear approximately once every 2,000 chests, while other community estimates suggest it may be closer to one in 700,000.
Despite the uncertainty, the possibility of claiming hundreds of dollars' worth of cosmetics for free has attracted thousands of players. Some fans have even described the event as Fortnite's answer to GTA 6, with the treasure hunt drawing attention away from other games.
The excitement surrounding the Pirate Shop token has created opportunities for players looking to profit from its rarity.
AFK farming tools are reportedly being sold to help players collect treasure while remaining idle. Meanwhile, accounts containing the coveted token have appeared on eBay for thousands of dollars.
Some players are also purchasing carrying services, allowing them to join matches while another player opens chests on their behalf. Since teammates can receive the same treasure reward, these services offer another way to pursue the rare item.
However, these methods come with significant risks. Automating gameplay and buying or selling accounts violate Epic Games' terms of service and could result in permanent account bans.
Treasure Hours are scheduled to begin on Oct. 8, with the limited-time event expected to return every Sunday until the season ends.
Although Epic Games has not confirmed whether these events will specifically increase the Pirate Shop token's drop rate, its official season announcement promises "boosted drops" during Treasure Hours.
Fortnite senior director Chris Yu has also confirmed that Power Hours will begin this Sunday. The exact schedule and effects of these events have yet to be revealed.
If Treasure Hours significantly improve treasure drop rates, they could provide the best opportunity for players to hunt for the Pirate Shop token alongside their friends.
For now, the rare reward remains one of the most talked-about additions to Fortnite, proving that sometimes the biggest attraction in a season isn't a highly anticipated collaboration, but the chance to unlock an entire Item Shop without spending a single V-Buck.
