What if building a pirate ship was just as entertaining as destroying one? That's the idea behind Sink My Bricks!, an upcoming co-op game on Steam that invites up to four players to form a pirate crew, construct their own brick-built warships, and sail into chaotic battles. But there's a twist: almost everything in the game's world can be destroyed.
Developed by indie studio Sleepy Amigos, Sink My Bricks! combines cooperative action, sandbox creativity, and roguelike progression in a playful pirate adventure. Its world is made entirely of LEGO-style bricks, from the islands and ships to the surrounding ocean. According to the developers, even the environment can be torn apart, meaning no two battles necessarily have to unfold the same way.
One of the game's most entertaining ideas is how it handles damage. Since everything, including the characters, is made of bricks, losing an arm, leg, or even a head doesn't necessarily mean the end of a pirate's adventure.
Players can continue fighting and sailing despite missing limbs, and they can even attempt to replace lost body parts with other random pieces. It's an unusual approach to character health that could lead to some wonderfully unpredictable multiplayer moments.
The destruction system also applies to ships and environments. Players can damage enemy vessels, tear apart islands, and potentially turn entire encounters into spectacular displays of flying bricks.
For groups of friends who enjoy games where unexpected situations become the best memories, this approach could be one of Sink My Bricks!'s biggest strengths.
Beyond its sandbox destruction, Sink My Bricks! features action-roguelike progression built around approximately one-hour gameplay runs.
Players must travel through three procedurally generated archipelagos, each featuring its own boss encounter and increasingly difficult challenges. Completing runs unlocks new weapons, ship components, and upgrades, while enemies become stronger and environments more dangerous.
However, there's an important catch: your ship is your lifeline. According to the developers, players can respawn only while their warship remains intact and continues sailing. If the vessel is destroyed, the entire run could come to an abrupt end.
This makes ship construction more than a creative activity. Choosing the right components, protecting your vessel, and working together as a crew could determine whether your next pirate expedition ends in victory or disaster.
While the roguelike structure provides plenty of progression, the game's sandbox mechanics leave room for spontaneous comedy.
In the first official trailer, one particularly ridiculous moment shows a player picking up a friend's fallen head and firing it from a cannon toward an enemy ship.
It's exactly the kind of unexpected situation that can turn an ordinary multiplayer session into something worth talking about afterward. Rather than relying entirely on scripted jokes, Sink My Bricks! appears to encourage players to create their own memorable moments through experimentation and destruction.
For players who enjoy cooperative games that reward creativity, teamwork, and a little friendly chaos, this could be an appealing combination.
Ship-to-ship battles are only part of the experience. Sink My Bricks! also promises a variety of combat options for players who prefer taking matters into their own hands.
Traditional pirate weapons, including cannons, will play an important role in naval encounters. However, players will also be able to fight enemies directly using firearms, adding a more action-oriented dimension to the gameplay.
One particularly interesting feature is the inclusion of what the developers call "cursed monster limbs." These unusual body modifications appear to grant characters extraordinary abilities, potentially changing how players approach combat and exploration.
Charms and additional upgrades will also introduce gameplay modifiers that, according to Sleepy Amigos, can "change the rules of the game."
Combined with the randomized environments and unlockable ship components, these systems could give players plenty of reasons to experiment with different strategies across multiple runs.
Sink My Bricks! is being developed by Sleepy Amigos, a small independent studio consisting of three developers.
Although the team has already revealed several of the game's core mechanics through its official Steam page and trailer, a release date has not yet been announced. With development updates still to come, players may have to wait a little longer before assembling their own pirate crews.
For now, anyone interested in the upcoming co-op pirate adventure can add Sink My Bricks! to their Steam wishlist to keep track of future announcements.
With destructible environments, customizable warships, unusual combat abilities, and plenty of opportunities for multiplayer mischief, this little pirate adventure could become an interesting addition to the growing world of cooperative indie games.
