Despite an impressive 2026 campaign and a contract through 2028, the French jungler is reportedly leaving G2 as the organization prepares for a roster rebuild.
G2 Esports is preparing for a major roster shake-up ahead of the 2027 League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC) season, with jungler Rudy “SkewMond” Semaan reportedly set to leave the organization.
According to industry sources, G2 has decided to make a change in the jungle position despite SkewMond having a contract that runs through November 2028. The organization is reportedly seeking a buyout rather than allowing the French player to leave for free.
The move comes after a disappointing Worlds 2026 campaign, where G2 exited during the Swiss Stage. Despite that international setback, SkewMond enjoyed an impressive season and was arguably one of the team's strongest performers.
SkewMond played a major role in G2's domestic success throughout 2026, helping the team complete its Golden Road by securing the region's major domestic titles.
His individual performances also earned plenty of recognition. The jungler was named Spring Split Finals MVP and delivered an especially memorable performance at First Stand, where he helped G2 reach its first international final since the 2019 World Championship.
One of his biggest moments came against Gen.G, where SkewMond went head-to-head with legendary jungler Kim “Canyon” Gun-boo and came out on top. His performance helped establish G2 as a serious international contender.
Following the Mid-Season Invitational, G2 needed time to adjust after Luka “Perkz” Perković took over as head coach from Dylan Falco. However, the team eventually found its rhythm, finishing the Summer Split with a dominant victory over Movistar KOI in Nice.
Unfortunately, that momentum did not carry into Worlds 2026. Despite a difficult tournament draw that saw G2 face LCK and LPL opponents in three of its four matches, the team's overall performance fell well short of expectations.
Since joining G2, SkewMond has steadily established himself as one of Europe's most promising jungle talents.
After reaching the finals of his first two LEC splits in 2025, the former BDS Academy player continued developing throughout the season. His performances during the MSI and Esports World Cup period further demonstrated his ability to compete against international opposition.
He also made an immediate impression at his first World Championship in 2025. G2 reached the quarterfinals for the first time in five years, although their run ended against Top Esports.
SkewMond even influenced the competitive meta with his Dr. Mundo jungle pick, which was later adopted by top international players, including Cuzz and Oner.
His development throughout 2026 made the reported departure particularly surprising, especially considering how important he had become to G2's success.
SkewMond is not the only player whose future could become a talking point during the offseason.
Steven “Hans sama” Liv is also contracted with G2 until 2028, while team veteran Rasmus “Caps” Winther has a deal running through the end of 2027.
Meanwhile, top laner Sergen “BrokenBlade” Çelik and support Labros “Labrov” Papoutsakis are approaching free agency, with their contracts set to expire on November 16, 2026.
Both players would need to negotiate new agreements with G2 to remain on the roster next season. However, no agreement has reportedly been reached so far.
With the organization already making changes behind the scenes, the coming weeks could reveal just how extensive its rebuilding plans will be.
Finding a suitable replacement will be one of G2's biggest challenges.
Several established LEC junglers remain under contract with their current organizations. These include Javier “Elyoya” Prades of Movistar KOI and Enes “Rhilech” Uçan of Natus Vincere.
Kacper “Inspired” Słoma could also attract attention, although he remains contracted with LYON until 2027. Meanwhile, former Fnatic jungler Ivan “Razork” Martín is reportedly exploring an opportunity with Team Heretics.
Among the players approaching free agency, Martin “Yike” Sundelin and Linas “Lyncas” Nauncikas stand out as potential candidates. Yike previously played for G2 before SkewMond replaced him, while Lyncas impressed with Team Vitality throughout the season.
G2 could also explore the European Regional Leagues (ERL) for emerging talent, following the successful approach that brought SkewMond into the organization.
Two names worth watching are Lanzo “Zicssi” Ciajolo and Francisco “Thayger” Mazo Sánchez, who both enjoyed strong Tier 2 campaigns with Solary and Galions.
With several LEC organizations potentially considering jungle changes, SkewMond should attract considerable interest.
Fnatic, Karmine Corp, Team Vitality, Shifters, GIANTX, and SK Gaming are among the teams that could explore changes ahead of 2027.
Given his performances over the past two seasons, SkewMond would be an attractive addition for any team looking to strengthen its jungle position. However, interested organizations would need to meet G2's reported buyout demands.
A move outside Europe could also become an option if G2 is reluctant to sell the player to a direct regional rival.
Update: Linas “Lyncas” Nauncikas Set to Join G2
G2's search for a new jungler has reportedly reached a conclusion. Linas “Lyncas” Nauncikas is set to join the organization for the 2027 LEC season, making him the expected replacement for SkewMond.
The move marks another major change for G2 as the team looks to rebuild its roster and return stronger after its disappointing Worlds 2026 campaign.
