Capcom may be preparing to bring the central Resident Evil storyline to an end within the next decade. Executive producer Jun Takeuchi told Japanese outlet Kyodo News that the series’ current 10-year branding plan began with the Resident Evil 2 remake and concluded with the release of Resident Evil Requiem.
Takeuchi said Capcom intends to release multiple games over the next 10-year period before the story reaches its conclusion. He did not clarify whether that means the end of the franchise itself or simply the final chapter for longtime heroes such as Leon, Claire, Jill, and Chris.
The comments suggest Capcom has a long-term roadmap rather than an immediate endpoint. The studio has previously expressed interest in releasing a new Resident Evil game every year, and rumors point to potential remakes of Resident Evil Zero, the original Resident Evil, Resident Evil 5, and even Resident Evil 6.
Those projects have not been officially confirmed, but they could make up a substantial portion of Capcom’s next decade. The upcoming Resident Evil Veronica game is also part of the publisher’s broader plan to keep the series active.
The original Raccoon City outbreak occurred in 1998, meaning many of the series’ founding characters are now considerably older. Capcom could choose to hand the franchise to a new cast through another soft reboot, similar to the shift that began with Resident Evil 7: Biohazard.
However, the series has often explained its characters’ longevity through viruses, parasites, and other bioweapons, so familiar faces such as Chris and Jill could still appear in future stories.
For now, fans do not need to worry about an immediate goodbye. Even if the main storyline ends in 10 years, Capcom’s stated plans point to plenty of new Resident Evil games, remakes, and spin-offs before that final chapter arrives.
