The beloved forest province returns to Betrayal of the Second Era, bringing new character classes, quests, enemies, and fresh adventures.
Fans of The Elder Scrolls have another reason to revisit Tamriel this November. The Valenwood expansion for The Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the Second Era is officially returning, giving players another opportunity to explore the homeland of the Bosmer, also known as the Wood Elves.
Originally released in 2025, the expansion quickly sold out. Now, publisher Chip Theory Games is preparing a new release, with preorders already available and shipping expected to begin during November 2026.
Although this isn't the long-awaited The Elder Scrolls 6, the expansion offers plenty for fans who enjoy exploring the series' rich fantasy world through tabletop adventures.
Valenwood is one of Tamriel's most distinctive provinces, known for its dense forests, unique wildlife, and Bosmer culture. While the region has appeared in The Elder Scrolls Online, it has yet to receive a major exploration-focused role in a modern mainline Elder Scrolls game.
The board game expansion brings this woodland province to Betrayal of the Second Era, introducing a collection of new content designed to expand the tabletop experience.
Players can discover new quests, explore Valenwood-specific locations, encounter regional enemies, and uncover how the province's political landscape connects to the wider events of the Second Era.
The expansion also introduces three new character classes:
- Arcanist: A class that expands magical gameplay possibilities.
- Burglar: A new option for players who enjoy stealth and cunning.
- Ranger: A class suited to adventures across Tamriel's wilderness.
Three additional skill lines also arrive with the expansion: Illusion, Legerdemain, and Light Armor. These additions provide more ways to customize characters and develop different playstyles, even when exploring regions beyond Valenwood.
The returning expansion includes several physical components and gameplay additions that bring the forest province to life.
Key features include:
- A brand-new region for Betrayal of the Second Era
- Three new character classes: Arcanist, Burglar, and Ranger
- Three new skill lines: Illusion, Legerdemain, and Light Armor
- New enemy and quest chips
- Encounter, delve, forest blight, and item cards
- Attribute and stat tokens
- Skill dice
- A physical overland map and gazetteer
The gazetteer and overland map provide additional ways to explore Valenwood, while its quests, encounters, and region-specific enemies add more variety to each adventure.
The November re-release arrives alongside five expansions for The Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the Second Era. Chip Theory Games is using the occasion to bring Valenwood back into circulation for fans who missed its original release.
The base board game is available through GameFound for $225, while the Valenwood expansion costs $45. This places it among the most expensive add-ons for the game, alongside the upcoming Elsweyr and Summerset expansions.
The re-release does not introduce additional content compared to the original 2025 version. However, its return gives collectors and tabletop enthusiasts another chance to experience one of the game's major regional additions.
While Valenwood offers something new for tabletop fans, expectations for the next mainline Elder Scrolls game remain high.
The Elder Scrolls 6 was first announced in 2018, but Bethesda has shared relatively few details about the highly anticipated sequel. Speculation surrounding a possible subtitle, The Elder Scrolls 6: Sentinel, has also fueled discussions about the game's eventual setting.
If the next installment takes place in Hammerfell, as some reports have suggested, Valenwood may remain unexplored in a major mainline release for a little longer.
For now, the expansion's return offers fans an opportunity to experience another corner of Tamriel. With new classes, additional skills, and an entire forest province to explore, Valenwood provides a welcome addition while the wait for the next mainline adventure continues.
