A mysterious red object, familiar faces, and eerie visuals have fans searching for clues as Kojima Productions offers another glimpse of its upcoming horror game.
Hideo Kojima's upcoming horror game, OD, has received a new promotional image, giving fans another small glimpse into one of the gaming industry's most mysterious projects. Although the latest reveal offers few concrete details, it has already sparked plenty of speculation about the game's supernatural themes and possible storyline.
The image was unveiled as part of Kojima Productions' 10th anniversary exhibition at Azabudai Hills Gallery in Tokyo, which runs through December 20.
The new image features Sophia Lillis' character staring at a mysterious red object floating in the air. Its shape resembles a broomstick, leading some fans to wonder whether witches and witchcraft could play a role in the game's horror setting.
The promotional image also carries the tagline, "For all players and screamers." While Kojima Productions hasn't explained its meaning, the unusual visual has given fans plenty to discuss.
Some have pointed out that the object's red color matches Hunter Schafer's costume in an earlier promotional image, as well as the red door featured in last year's OD: Knock teaser video. These similarities have encouraged theories about possible connections between the characters and the game's mysterious events.
Others are drawn to the image's unusual atmosphere. Rather than relying on the dark environments commonly associated with horror games, the bright background and surreal imagery create a different kind of unease.
Another question concerns the image's presentation. Some fans believe it is an in-game render showcasing the realism of MetaHuman facial technology, while others suspect it could be a live-action photograph because of its remarkably detailed appearance.
First announced more than four years ago, OD remains largely under wraps. Kojima Productions has confirmed that the project is a horror experience, with filmmaker Jordan Peele also contributing to its development.
Kojima has previously hinted at bringing together an "Avengers"-style team of horror writers, suggesting that multiple creative voices could help shape the experience.
There are also unconfirmed rumors that OD will feature several episodes written by different creators, with OD: Knock representing Kojima's contribution. However, the studio has yet to officially confirm this structure.
The most substantial look at the game so far came from last year's OD: Knock teaser trailer.
The footage begins with partially redacted text that references curses and a mysterious building. Sophia Lillis' character then enters a gloomy apartment that brings back memories of the unsettling atmosphere found in P.T., Kojima's famously influential horror demo.
Inside, she begins lighting candles while an increasingly persistent knocking sound comes from the door. The tension builds until another door unexpectedly opens behind her.
What follows is a disturbing sequence in which strange markings begin appearing on her body as a blurred creature approaches and places its hands over her face.
The latest promotional image appears to continue this visual direction. Its beige background resembles the apartment walls from the trailer, while the floating red object introduces another surreal element.
Together, these promotional materials suggest that OD may explore the unsettling contrast between ordinary environments and inexplicable supernatural events.
The studio's 10th anniversary exhibition has also become an interesting source of potential OD discoveries.
Although photography is prohibited at the event, some exhibition images have surfaced online. One collection reportedly features the familiar red door from the trailer, alongside cards containing written dares.
For now, Kojima Productions is keeping the game's secrets firmly under wraps. However, every new image and teaser seems to give fans another reason to investigate, discuss theories, and look forward to discovering what kind of horror experience OD will ultimately deliver.
