The strategy-focused card game has removed its $6 price tag, welcoming more players to explore its dark fantasy world, build decks, and battle friends.
Steam players looking for a new strategy game have another free option to add to their libraries. Grim Siege, a dark fantasy trading card game, has officially become free to play after previously selling for $6. Released in September 2026, the game has already earned approximately 90% positive reviews from Steam users, although its overall review count remains relatively small.
Developed by Saqred Games, Grim Siege combines deck-building, tactical combat, and tower defense mechanics. Players must strengthen and protect their own towers while finding ways to disrupt opponents and bring down their defenses. Different classes, card synergies, and strategic combinations offer plenty of room to experiment with different playstyles.
The free-to-play change took effect on October 29, making Grim Siege available to a wider audience. The game originally launched with a $6 price tag, but developer Saqred Games decided to remove the cost to encourage more players to join its growing community.
The developer explained that the decision was made to help more people discover the game and become part of its existing player base. As a thank-you for supporting the game before the transition, existing players also received some in-game currency.
Despite its relatively small scale, Grim Siege offers several game modes that give players different ways to enjoy its card-based battles. Those who enjoy competing against others can jump into 1v1 or 2v2 PvP matches, while players who prefer solo challenges can explore a PvE mode featuring roguelike elements.
Ranked matches are also available for anyone looking for a more competitive experience. Meanwhile, private lobbies allow players to invite friends directly, making it easier to enjoy matches together without relying on public matchmaking or waiting for other players to join.
One of Grim Siege's appealing features is its relatively straightforward resource system. Rather than overwhelming newcomers with numerous mechanics, the game focuses on three main resources: Stone, Blood, and Slaves.
Each resource serves a different purpose during battles. Stone helps reinforce walls and strengthen tower defenses, Blood supports magic and status effects, while Slaves are used for attacks and other offensive actions.
Although the basic resource system is easy to understand, the variety of available classes, card effects, and synergies creates opportunities for more advanced strategies. Players can experiment with different deck combinations, discover effective interactions, and develop their own approach to each battle.
Grim Siege is not the only game that has recently joined Steam's free-to-play or free-to-keep lineup. Several other titles have also become available without their previous price tags:
- Cartomancy Anthology: Now free on Steam, previously priced at $24.99.
- Phobos Down: Permanently free after previously costing $5.99.
- H-Hour: World's Elite: Returned to Steam as a free game after previously costing approximately $25.
Steam has not yet announced any November free-to-keep promotions at the time of writing. However, additional giveaways could still appear throughout the month.
For players interested in discovering more free games, keeping an eye on Steam's storefront and upcoming promotions is a good way to find new experiences without spending extra money. With its accessible mechanics, multiple game modes, and private multiplayer options, Grim Siege could be worth checking out for anyone who enjoys dark fantasy settings and strategic card battles.
