Remedy Entertainment, the creative studio behind Alan Wake and Control, has a reason to celebrate. Its latest release, Control Resonant, has become the fastest-selling game in the company’s history, marking a significant milestone after a challenging period of financial uncertainty.
According to Remedy’s third-quarter 2026 business review, the game received an excellent response from players and helped the company increase its quarterly revenue by 226% compared to the same period last year.
Even more impressive, the revenue increase reflects only Control Resonant’s pre-orders and its first seven days of sales before the end of Remedy’s third quarter in late September. Released on September 24, the game had already sold one million copies by October 15.
Remedy’s new CEO, Jean-Charles Gaudechon, praised the game’s performance and highlighted its importance for the company.
“This is our first self-published game of this scale, built on our own Control IP. Praised by players and critics alike, it marks a defining milestone for the company,” Gaudechon said.
The CEO also emphasized the positive reception of the game’s creative direction, particularly Remedy’s willingness to take risks and surprise its audience.
Although Control Resonant did not receive universal critical acclaim, reviews were generally positive. Its technical performance also earned praise, particularly for its ability to run across a wide range of PC hardware.
According to Gaudechon, this accessibility helped introduce the game to a broader audience while showcasing the capabilities of Remedy’s in-house Northlight game engine.
Control Resonant received the largest marketing investment in Remedy’s history, demonstrating the studio’s confidence in its latest project.
The United States emerged as the game’s largest market, accounting for nearly half of its sales. On PC, China and the United Kingdom followed the U.S. as the second- and third-largest markets. For console sales, the United Kingdom and Canada took those positions.
One of the most encouraging results for Remedy was the number of players discovering the Control universe for the first time.
“Based on analytic data, close to 50% of players were new to Control,” Gaudechon explained. “Reaching new players was a key goal for this game, and these early results indicate a growing audience for the franchise and for Remedy.”
The figures suggest that Control Resonant is not only appealing to longtime fans but also creating opportunities for the franchise to grow.
The success of Control Resonant comes after a difficult period for the Finnish developer.
In June 2025, Remedy released FBC: Firebreak, a multiplayer game that struggled to attract players and received a mixed critical response. The game failed to meet sales expectations, prompting the company to issue a profit warning.
Twelve days later, former CEO Tero Virtala stepped down from his position. Remedy subsequently reported an operating loss of €14.9 million for 2025.
On February 9, 2026, the company appointed former Electronic Arts executive Jean-Charles Gaudechon as its new CEO. The leadership change raised questions about the studio’s future direction, particularly among fans concerned about the possibility of a more commercially focused approach.
However, Control Resonant appears to demonstrate that Remedy can pursue ambitious creative ideas while reaching a wider audience.
With strong early sales, positive player reception, and nearly half of its audience discovering Control for the first time, Control Resonant represents an important step forward for Remedy Entertainment.
The game’s success could provide the studio with greater financial stability while allowing it to continue developing distinctive experiences that stand apart from the industry's increasingly familiar formulas.
For fans of Remedy’s unusual worlds, experimental storytelling, and creative risks, the latest results offer a welcome reason for optimism. The studio’s newest release has not only found an audience but also demonstrated that original ideas can still succeed on a major scale.
