Game Informer has revealed Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis as its next cover story, giving fans a first major look at Crystal Dynamics and Flying Wild Hog’s reimagining of the original 1996 Tomb Raider. The game launches February 12, 2027, on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, Nintendo Switch 2, and PC.
The cover art, created by franchise art director Brenoch Adams, brings together multiple versions of Lara Croft from across the series’ 30-year history. It features designs from the Core Design, Legend, Survivor, and current eras, making it a visual celebration of the franchise’s evolution.
Legacy of Atlantis is not simply another remake. Crystal Dynamics previously revisited the original game with 2007’s Tomb Raider: Anniversary, but this new project aims to reimagine Lara’s first adventure with modern gameplay, expanded storytelling, and new connections to the upcoming Tomb Raider: Catalyst.
Game Informer’s 12-page cover story includes hands-on impressions from several hours with the game, including an exclusive look at its Greece section. The feature also explores why the studio is returning to Lara’s debut adventure and how this version differs from earlier interpretations.
The report also addresses the teams’ use of AI development tools, a topic that has drawn criticism from parts of the Tomb Raider community. Game Informer says it spoke with key developers about how the tools are being used and why the studios believe they fit into the project’s development.
For longtime fans, the game represents both a celebration and a test: can a modern reimagining honor the original’s legacy without erasing what made it iconic?
The December issue also includes a six-page retrospective looking back at Tomb Raider’s 30-year history, with insights from Crystal Dynamics. Alongside the cover story, the magazine features previews for Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV, Fate/Extra Record, and more.
Tomb Raider: Legacy of Atlantis will be available on February 12, 2027, giving players a chance to return to the adventure that started it all—this time with modern visuals, expanded systems, and a direct link to Lara Croft’s future.
