A new fan-made mod, Red Dead Redemption 2: Undead Damnation, is bringing the zombie-western spirit of Undead Nightmare to Rockstar’s acclaimed open-world game. Creator Rixus announced the project with a moody teaser trailer just ahead of Halloween, positioning it as a prequel to the original 2010 expansion.
Rather than simply replacing enemies with zombies, Undead Damnation aims to recreate the scale and atmosphere of Undead Nightmare across Red Dead Redemption 2’s entire map. The undead curse will reportedly stretch from Annesburg to Tumbleweed, with players rescuing settlements, clearing cemeteries, completing new missions, and encountering multiple zombie types.
The mod will also include classic music from the original expansion, helping capture the eerie, apocalyptic tone that made Undead Nightmare so memorable. Its teaser shows abandoned towns, stormy nights, and undead figures wandering through familiar locations, including the streets of Saint Denis.
There is no release date yet, and the mod does not yet have an official Nexus Mods page. Rixus has confirmed, however, that Undead Damnation will be a free download for PC players through Nexus Mods once it is ready.
The original Undead Nightmare remains one of the most celebrated pieces of downloadable content ever made, blending a complete story, memorable missions, and supernatural western horror into the first Red Dead Redemption. While Rockstar has never made an official zombie expansion for Red Dead Redemption 2, this ambitious community project may finally give fans the experience they have been waiting for.
