Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is giving fans even more reasons to return to its world. Following its September 2026 launch, the strategy RPG is receiving an expansion pass packed with new content, including a major addition that addresses one of the game's most controversial decisions.
Nintendo and Intelligent Systems surprised players with an announcement revealing multiple waves of downloadable content. The expansion pass is available now, with new weapons, character outfits, additional allies, and four new story routes planned for future updates.
The first wave of DLC introduces four new weapons inspired by the Heroes’ Relics from Fire Emblem: Three Houses. Although the game refers to them as Prototypes, their familiar designs and origins should make them especially appealing to longtime fans.
The four weapons and their original owners are:
- Sword of the Creator: Byleth’s iconic sword.
- Areadbhar: Dimitri’s powerful lance.
- Aymr: Edelgard’s signature axe.
- Failnaught: Claude’s distinctive bow.
These additions bring recognizable pieces of Three Houses into Fortune’s Weave, giving players another reason to experiment with their combat strategies.
The second wave is expected to arrive during the 2026 holiday season, bringing additional outfits and three new playable allies.
The four Flame Lords: Cai, Dietrich, Theodora, and Leda, will receive new outfits. Players can switch between their original appearances and the new designs whenever they like.
The outfits can also be worn by their respective allies, allowing players to coordinate their units around their favorite in-game factions. For fans who enjoy customizing their army's appearance, this offers another way to give their roster a more personal touch.
The update will also introduce three Dagdan gods as playable characters in Part 3: Aurora, Smyrnos, and Jurah. These powerful figures will join the Promised One's army, bringing considerable strength to the battlefield.
However, their divine status does not make them invincible. They can still fall in combat, meaning players will need to use their abilities wisely rather than relying on raw power alone.
The third wave is arguably the biggest announcement, as it will introduce four new stories centered on the rival lords Anatolia, Talimun, Orchel, and Bertrand.
This addition addresses a major point of discussion surrounding Fortune’s Weave since its release. The game originally featured plans for eight protagonists, but Intelligent Systems ultimately reduced that number to four, introducing the avatar character Eshmel to help connect the remaining storylines.
The developers explained that the original scope was too ambitious. As a result, the four rival lords did not receive the dedicated routes that some fans had hoped to see.
That decision disappointed players who wanted to explore the characters' perspectives and understand their motivations beyond their roles as rivals. With the third DLC wave, those stories are finally set to receive additional attention.
Restoring four additional routes could significantly increase the amount of content available in Fortune’s Weave. The base game already offers four main routes, so players who want to experience every storyline may have a substantial journey ahead of them.
The timing also raises questions about how the additional stories came together. Although fan demand may have helped encourage the decision, the new routes could have been in development for some time, with the team needing additional time to complete them.
For now, Nintendo has not announced a specific release date for Wave 3. The four additional stories are planned for 2027, leaving players waiting for further details.
The expansion pass offers a mixture of familiar weapons, character customization, powerful new allies, and a substantial narrative addition. However, the return of the four cut routes stands out as the most significant change for players who wanted a deeper look at the game's rival lords.
With more stories to explore and additional characters to bring into battle, Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave is set to grow considerably beyond its original release. Fans will have to wait until 2027 for the expanded storylines, but the prospect of seeing these overlooked characters take center stage gives the upcoming DLC plenty of potential.
