Nintendo has officially declared November 1 as Pikmin Day, giving fans of the colorful strategy franchise an annual reason to celebrate. The announcement came with several updates from series creator Shigeru Miyamoto, including news about the upcoming Pikmin 4 Nintendo Switch 2 Edition and new content for Pikmin Bloom.
During the special presentation, Miyamoto confirmed that Pikmin 4 – Nintendo Switch 2 Edition + Dandori Academy will launch on November 12. Players won't have to wait until release day to experience the updated version, as a free demo arrives on November 2.
The demo includes one standard level and two Dandori Academy challenges, offering an early look at the game's strategic gameplay.
The Nintendo Switch 2 Edition features improved visuals and introduces voice commands through the console's built-in microphone. Players can give their loyal companion Oatchi commands such as "Rush" and "Go to work" simply by speaking.
Dandori Academy also introduces a competitive element through timed challenges. Players can practice their runs before submitting their best times on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays. Each player gets one opportunity to submit a score during these weekly competitions.
The mobile game Pikmin Bloom is also preparing for a substantial update later this year. The upcoming addition introduces secret caves that players can discover through special maps.
Once a cave is uncovered, players can send their Pikmin inside to battle enemies and search for treasure. Interestingly, these maps won't be exclusive to the mobile game. Players will also be able to discover maps through Pikmin 4, creating another connection between the two experiences.
Nintendo also used Pikmin Day to remind fans that every mainline Pikmin game is available on Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2.
However, the presentation offered no indication that Pikmin 1 and Pikmin 2 will join the Nintendo Switch Online subscription service, which features GameCube titles on Switch 2. Both games remain available for individual purchase through the Nintendo eShop.
The presentation also welcomed actress Fuka Koshiba, known for voicing Kiki in Kiki's Delivery Service. Koshiba shared her enthusiasm for the franchise, including her hobby of knitting Pikmin-themed hats and showcasing them on social media.
She also helped introduce a new Pikmin short film featuring one of the tiny creatures interacting with a toad. The presentation kept the details of the encounter under wraps, leaving viewers to discover the little story themselves.
Miyamoto confirmed that additional animated shorts are in development. Future releases will be available through the Nintendo Today app, giving fans another way to enjoy the charming world of Pikmin.
Although the presentation covered plenty of franchise updates, one title was notably absent: Hey! Pikmin, the 2017 Nintendo 3DS spin-off. No mention was made of a potential Nintendo Switch 2 port, so fans shouldn't expect an announcement about its return just yet.
