Fans of The Elder Scrolls have a new adventure to look forward to, although it is not the long-awaited sixth mainline game. The Elder Scrolls: Summerset, a major expansion for the tabletop board game The Elder Scrolls: Betrayal of the Second Era, is scheduled to ship to backers in November 2026.
Developed by Chip Theory Games, the expansion introduces the beautiful island province of Summerset, home to the Altmer, also known as High Elves. Known for its powerful magic and rich history, the region offers players new ways to explore the world of Tamriel while facing unexpected dangers.
Unlike smaller content additions, Summerset is a full region expansion, making it one of the more substantial additions planned for Betrayal of the Second Era. It introduces two new character classes, Mages and Assassins, giving players additional ways to approach their adventures.
The expansion also adds two skill lines: Aedric Spear and Assassination. These new abilities offer fresh tactical possibilities, whether players prefer magical combat or a more stealth-focused approach.
One of the most intriguing additions is the introduction of magical anomalies. These unpredictable events can change the course of gameplay before players have an opportunity to prepare, encouraging them to adapt their strategies as their adventures unfold.
The expansion also includes new quests, enemies, and overland encounters, alongside a collection of physical game components. These include a clash mat, an overland map, enemy and quest chips, skill dice, and overland encounter cards.
- A new region: Explore Summerset, a province filled with magic, mystery, and adventure.
- Two new classes: Play as a Mage or an Assassin.
- New skill lines: Unlock abilities through Aedric Spear and Assassination.
- Magical anomalies: Encounter unpredictable events that can change gameplay.
- Fresh adventures: Discover new quests, enemies, and overland encounters.
- Physical accessories: Expand the tabletop experience with new maps, dice, chips, and cards.
Chip Theory Games plans to ship Summerset to backers in November 2026, alongside several other expansions for Betrayal of the Second Era. Another major region expansion, The Elder Scrolls: Elsweyr, takes players to the homeland of the Khajiit.
For those interested in expanding their tabletop collection, Summerset is priced at $45 on its own. The New Gameplay Bundle, which includes the new expansions, costs $155.
The announcement offers fans another way to experience Tamriel while waiting for The Elder Scrolls 6. Bethesda's last mainline entry, The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim, launched in 2011, and although The Elder Scrolls Online continues to receive updates, its massively multiplayer format offers a different experience from a traditional single-player RPG.
With Summerset, players can return to the franchise's fantasy setting through a tabletop adventure featuring new characters, strategic choices, and unpredictable encounters. For fans eager to explore more of Tamriel, the upcoming expansion provides another opportunity to experience the world beyond its video games.
