The God of War 3 Remastered PC port is now playable through an unofficial fan-made project, allowing the PlayStation 4 version to run natively on Windows. Developed by Felipe Prado, the project reportedly supports the game from its opening through its final battle, with features including high frame rates, keyboard and mouse controls, and mod support. However, it remains in alpha, and players must provide their own game files rather than download the game from the project itself.
Originally released for PlayStation 3 in 2010, God of War 3 received a remastered version for PlayStation 4 five years later. Neither release officially brought the game to PC. While the 2018 God of War and God of War Ragnarök later arrived on Steam in 2022 and 2024, respectively, the Greek-era entry has remained tied to older PlayStation platforms through official releases.
According to Prado's Reddit post, the project supports save functionality, audio, cinematics, controllers, and keyboard input. It also includes an engine patch supporting up to 240 FPS, background shader caching, control remapping, save backups, optional FidelityFX Super Resolution 1 (FSR 1), cheats, and additional performance settings.
Prado reports an average of approximately 144 FPS at 1080p using an AMD Radeon RX 6700 XT. The project is still in alpha, however, and reportedly has texture issues at resolutions above 1080p. Players should therefore expect bugs and other unfinished elements during development.
The port uses a different approach from traditional console emulation. Because the PlayStation 4 uses an x86-64 CPU architecture, the game's executable can run directly on a compatible PC processor. A custom runtime replaces PlayStation system libraries with Windows equivalents, while a heavily modified version of the shadPS4 graphics core translates PlayStation 4 GPU commands into Vulkan.
Prado compares this method to translation layers such as Wine and Proton, which are associated with SteamOS, rather than full-system emulation. The project also builds partly on technology developed for an unofficial Bloodborne PC project. Other fan-made conversions have targeted games including Gears of War 2, Fable 2, Lost Odyssey, and P.T., although these projects use different technical approaches.
The unofficial port arrives as Sony is also revisiting the franchise's Greek-era games. According to the source, Santa Monica Studio confirmed earlier in 2026 that the original God of War trilogy would receive remakes. The project remains in early development, with no release date announced in the provided source.
Meanwhile, God of War Laufey is scheduled to arrive on PlayStation 5 on February 16, 2027, according to the source. No PC version has been announced. The source also reports that Sony has backed away from PC releases for its single-player games, although it does not provide confirmation that this applies to every future title.
For now, Prado's project offers another way for PC players to experience God of War 3 Remastered. It does not distribute the original game, so users must obtain their own PlayStation 4 game files to use the port.
