Guild Wars 2 is making its extensive story easier to access, with changes to expansion bundles, free content, and the Starter Pack. The updates bring several previously separate Living World seasons into existing expansion purchases, reducing the need for players to buy individual episodes to follow the MMORPG's evolving story.
The changes cover all six expansions and five Living World seasons released across the game's 14-year history. They also introduce an updated Elder Dragon Saga bundle, a new Astral Ward Saga bundle, and additional items for the Guild Wars 2 Starter Pack.
For new players, the changes make it easier to progress from the original campaign into the game's major story arcs. Returning players who already own certain expansions will also benefit, as eligible Living World episodes will automatically unlock without additional purchases.
One of the most significant changes is the new availability of Living World Season 2. The season is now free as part of the base Guild Wars 2 game for players with a level 80 character, following the same general approach as Living World Season 1. This helps bridge the gap between the original campaign and Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns.
Living World Seasons 3 and 4 are now included in the Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns and Guild Wars 2: Path of Fire bundle. Players who already own the relevant expansions will automatically unlock any missing episodes from these seasons.
Living World Season 5, also known as The Icebrood Saga, is now included with Guild Wars 2: End of Dragons. Existing owners of the expansion will likewise receive any missing episodes automatically.
These changes simplify access to the game's narrative content, which previously required players to acquire certain Living World episodes separately. Living World seasons are no longer available for individual purchase because the relevant content is now either free or included with the associated expansions.
Alongside the Living World changes, the game has reorganized several of its major content bundles to make the available purchasing options easier to understand.
The updated Guild Wars 2 Elder Dragon Saga bundle includes three expansions: Heart of Thorns, Path of Fire, and End of Dragons. It also includes Living World Seasons 3, 4, and 5, providing a substantial portion of the game's central storyline in one package.
A new Guild Wars 2 Astral Ward Saga bundle has also been introduced. It contains Secrets of the Obscure, Janthir Wilds, and the latest expansion, Visions of Eternity.
For players who want access to the full collection of paid content, the updated Guild Wars 2 Complete Collection includes all six expansions and Living World Seasons 3, 4, and 5. Living World Seasons 1 and 2 are free, meaning players can access the complete set of expansion and Living World content covered by the offer through a single purchase.
Individual expansions remain available for purchase, giving players the flexibility to choose which content they want rather than committing to a larger bundle.
The Guild Wars 2 Starter Pack has also received an update aimed at increasing its value, particularly for players beginning their adventures in Tyria.
The revised pack now includes three additional items:
- A Copper-Fed Salvage-o-Matic
- Five Teleport to Friend devices
- Two Black Lion Chest Keys
Players who purchased the Starter Pack previously will automatically receive the additional items through in-game mail.
Pricing and availability for the updated bundles can be checked through the official Guild Wars 2 web store and the game's in-game store, as well as Steam and the Epic Games Store. Steam users can also benefit from dynamic bundle pricing, which automatically adjusts discounts based on content they already own.
The update also includes a refund policy for eligible Living World purchases. Players who purchased Living World content after September 12, 2026, will automatically receive a gem refund equivalent to the value of that content. The policy also covers partial gem refunds for purchases of the Guild Wars 2 Elder Dragon Saga—Complete Collection.
The refund is intended to return the full value of eligible Living World content purchased during the specified period. Players who do not receive their refund or the additional Starter Pack items by October 15 are advised to contact ArenaNet Support at support@arena.net.
There are also a few details to consider when purchasing bundles. Each bundle includes the Character Slots and Shared Inventory Slots normally associated with its expansions. However, players who already own one or more of those expansions will not receive duplicate Character Slots or Shared Inventory Slots.
Overall, these changes make Guild Wars 2's extensive story easier to access while simplifying its range of purchasing options. By including more Living World content with expansions and improving the Starter Pack, the MMORPG is making it more straightforward for new players to explore Tyria and for returning players to fill gaps in their collections.
